Magnetic drill rental means paying to use a drilling machine that locks itself to steel with an electromagnetic base, for the length of a job, instead of buying it. For a few weeks of connection work on site, buying the whole machine is rarely necessary.
If you are looking for a hand drill, this is the wrong page. These machines weigh 10–57 kg and are built for structural steel and pipework, not for cordless screwdriving. Our rental fleet covers pipe bevelling, pipe cutting and magnetic drills.
When does renting beat buying?
- One project, a few weeks. For bridge, tank or structural assembly work that ends, renting removes the risk of the machine standing idle.
- A hole bigger than your machine. If the workshop has a Ø32 mm machine and the job calls for Ø90 mm, renting one class up for that job is sound.
- More than 100 days a year. Past that point buying usually wins; renting pays in the short and medium term.
Which magnetic drill? Power and cutter diameter
Cutter diameter is not the only number that decides. Drilling depth, stroke and weight all change whether the job is possible. The figures below are BDS's own technical data.

Up to Ø32 mm the MABasic 200 is enough. Flange work reaching Ø100 mm calls for the MAB 825 or MAB 845; the heaviest sections need the MAB 1300.
What if there is no mains power?
Site power is not always there. The eMAB 450 runs on a battery (1,100 W class, Ø40 mm TCT, 13 kg), and where compressed air is required the AirMAB 5000 runs pneumatically. Saying which applies in your request gets the right machine sent.
What the rental includes
Installation, transport, scheduled maintenance, insurance and service are included in the rental price; no deposit is taken and rental payments are deductible as an expense. Operator training is given on site.
Cutters are separate. The machine may be rented but the cutter is a consumable: cobalt HSS (M35–M42) or TCT carbide, chosen by the material. TCT suits stainless and duplex, HSS usually suits carbon steel — see Cutters and Consumables.
