The two most important points in preparing for welding are:
- Cleaning the weld area
- Cutting the weld bevel
Cleaning before and after welding is often the most important part of the welding operation. There are two ways to clean the materials to be welded: chemical and mechanical. Both are practical methods that can be used.
There is more than one method at the bevelling stage. The most important thing is to bring the work into the correct, proper position.
Weld bevels are also cut cold with a grinding wheel, with a toothless plastic cutting disc and with special milling cutters made purely for bevelling. Beyond these, compressed-air chisels are also used.
