A four-cornered insert carries four separate cutting edges on one plate. When an edge goes dull the insert is unclamped, turned 90°, clamped again, and the machine carries on — four cutting lives per insert. There is no regrinding, no resetting, and the cutting geometry is identical at every index. On a GBC plate machine that translates directly into downtime: on long plate edges, insert changing is the most frequent thing that stops the line, and indexing cuts the real replacement rate to a quarter. The range comes in two grades. The carbon steel grade is used on structural plate, where the chip breaks cleanly and evacuation is not a problem. The stainless grade is separated out for the sticky, stringy chip and the work-hardening behaviour of stainless plate — running stainless with a carbon steel insert leads to built-up edge and early failure, so the two grades should not be mixed. The grade is chosen by the plate being cut, not by the machine; the same machine takes either. Both codes are sold in boxes of ten, so consumable planning is done by the box; keeping one spare box on the shelf separates the supply cycle from the pace of the work.
