Advantages

Face It First

A bevel cut on a crooked end comes out crooked. The facing blade squares the end, and the bevel is then cut on that surface.

Two Procedure Angles

30° and 37.5° give 60° and 75° V grooves when paired. The choice follows the groove angle written into the WPS.

Carbon Steel Group

All three lines are specified for carbon and low-alloy pipe, so the material group is settled before the order goes out.

A Three-Line Stock

Hold the facing blade permanently, hold the angle in the procedure permanently, and add the second angle only on a change.

A shop running a TC40 or TC73 keeps three consumable lines, and each covers a different operation. The USC0277/01 facing blade squares the pipe end to the axis — the job done before any bevel, because a bevel cut on a crooked end comes out crooked too. On the bevelling side there are two angles. USC0293/01 cuts a 30° outside bevel; two such faces meeting give a 60° V, which limits weld volume while keeping the root open on heavy wall. USC0209/01 cuts 37.5°, giving a 75° V when paired, and more electrode access with it. The angle is not a preference: whatever groove angle the WPS specifies is the blade you order. All three lines are specified for the carbon steel group, so they run on carbon and low-alloy pipe; for stainless work these codes are not the right ones. The practical stocking rule is short — always hold the facing blade, hold the bevelling blade whose angle appears in the procedure, and add the second angle only when the procedure changes.
