Advantages

Less Filler Metal

A radius J limits how far the groove opens, so at the same thickness it takes less filler and fewer passes than a straight V.

No Sharp Root

There is no sharp corner at the bottom of the groove, so the root pass sits more easily and the root stays clean.

Three Radii

The choice between R3, R4 and R5 follows root opening; a larger radius gives easier electrode access.

Head Bought Once

P16759 is a one-off purchase and only the inserts are renewed afterwards, so running cost sits on the insert.

Features

  • Radius milling head that mounts on the MANUAL EDGE body
  • Insert options in R3, R4 and R5
  • J-type root geometry with no sharp corner at the groove bottom
  • Less filler metal than a straight V at the same thickness
  • The head is a one-off purchase; the inserts are the wear items
  • Radius follows root opening and the welding procedure

A radius preparation does a different job from a straight bevel. A straight V widens as thickness grows; a radius J rounds the root, limits how far the groove opens toward the surface, and needs less filler metal at the same thickness. It also leaves no sharp corner at the bottom of the groove, which helps the root pass sit properly. This family holds four lines in two parts. P16759 is the radius milling head — the head that mounts on the MANUAL EDGE body and carries the radius inserts, bought once. C21012, C21015 and C21016 are the consumable side, giving R3, R4 and R5 respectively. Radius choice follows root opening and welding procedure: a smaller radius means a narrower root, a larger one a wider root with easier electrode access. Whatever radius the procedure defines is the insert to order. When planning purchases, take the head once and the working radius insert on a regular cycle — the head does not change, the inserts are what wear.
