Overview

The production of ship deck sections presents a significant technological challenge. Plates, with their various thicknesses, different lengths, and the highest requirements for connection quality, must be joined together as automatically, flexibly, and cost-effectively as possible to form a large deck.
With our Graebener® edge-milling machines and Tailor-Welded-Plates® technology, we tackle this challenge and turn it into a competitive advantage for you. Through modern milling technology and laser-hybrid welding technology, Graebener® enhances the efficiency and quality of weld seams, ensuring more accurate placement of parts for the next assembly process. Detailed straightening, clamping, and tack welding operations are no longer necessary on downstream machines.

The Graebener® TWP® system combines plates of various thicknesses in different combinations with extreme precision and automation. Our proven milling and joining technology ensures a gap-free weld seam preparation for the subsequent laser-hybrid welding process, even for deck sections with widths up to 30 meters. Thanks to the intelligent machine concept, any fluctuations in the plate are compensated for, and thus production is not negatively affected in any way.

Machine Concepts

The well-tested design of Graebener® panel production lines is based on many years of experience and close cooperation with leading shipyards in Europe, Asia and the USA. The machines are designed for the particularly demanding conditions on a shipyard and allow precise and reliable results to be achieved even after several years of operation.

The main advantage of the TWP® machine concept is not only the simultaneous milling and then joining of each plate in the same pass of the machine, but also that the plates remain clamped after the simultaneous milling operation and are aligned relative to each other via the movable clamping ring. Therefore, any possible plate roughness does not prevent achieving straightening tolerances, as the plate is kept straight until the end of the joining process.
After joining the first two plates, other plates can be joined in the same way, even if the plate thickness changes.
